Golden Jackal Taxidermy

GOLDEN JACKAL

4.

(Canis aureus)

During the period of British rule in the Indian subcontinent, large numbers of British officers found themselves stationed across India. Many of them spent their free time in hunt clubs that used jackal hounds. One of the most established was the Ooty or “Ootacamund” meaning “village of huts” founded in 1835.  We have two jackals from hunts at the Ooty Hunt Club. This Jackal is from and Ooty hunt on the 5th of June 1949.
