The European otter was hunted to near extinction throughout Europe with the use of specially bred otter hounds. Thankfully they are now protected! The quality of the modeling on this otter by Peter Spicer & Sons of London is exceptional. The small plaque on the shield bears the details of the hunt which took place in 1932.
