SHORTNOSE STURGEON
67.
(Acipenser brevirostrum)
Shortnose sturgeons are slow-growing and late-maturing. They have been recorded up to 4.5 feet in length and live 30 years or more. They use a vacuum-like mouth to suck up a variety of prey from the substrate, typically invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, worms, and mollusks. They are critically endangered and therefore no longer fished.
