Sumatran Orangutan

84.

(Pongo abrelii)

Like humans, Orangutans develop very slowly. Young orangutans depend entirely on their mothers for their first 7 to 10 years. This young Sumatran Orangutan died of natural causes at the St. Louis Zoo and was preserverd by Schwarz Studio Taxidermy of St. Louis. Taxidermist and naturalist Frank Schwarz was one of the founding members of the St. Zoo.
